Abstract

The development of nanoscience and nanotechnology has encountered important progress in the last years, one of the propulsing engines being reprezented by the metal-polymer nanocomposite materials. the physical properties of the metallic system are highly affected by the dimensional quantum effects, having the capability to present, at nano-cluster level, properties like chromatism due to plasmonic absorption, photo and thermoluminescence, ferromagnetism or superparamagnetism, intense catalytic activation, and so on. This project proposes the development of specific plasma synthesis methods of metal-polymer nanocomposites, by utilizing combined plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition/physical vapor deposition (pecvd/pvd) techniques, methods that conduct to nanomaterials with predetermined properties. The aim of the research is to obtain and characterize metal-polymer nanocomposites with controlled surface plasmon resonant frequency, and also nanocomposites with antimicrobial and/or biocompatibility properties. The control of the combined synthesis process is realized by identifying and monitoring the species that sustain the synthesis, species which are generated in the sequential or simultaneous operation of the plasma sources. The team proposed by the present project, from the national institute for lasers, plasma and radiation, is composed from one young researcher with experience and recognition at international level, and phd young researchers that are due to complete their doctoral thesis during the project implementation.

Project objectives

Considering the above presented international context and the particularities orelated to the use of the combined system of plasma sources, the project foreseen the achievement of the following objectives:

  1. Synthesis by combined plasma PECVD/PVD techniques of metal-polymer nanocomposites for applications in optics, based on the surface plasmon resonance control
  2. Synthesis by combined plasma PECVD/PVD techniques of metal-polymer nanocomposites with antimicrobial and/or biocompatibility properties
  3. Identification and monitoring of atomic, ionic and molecular plasma species generated in the combined PECVD/PVD system, responsible for the synthesis control of metal - polymer nanocomposites
